Why Deadbolt Installation Is More Than Just Drilling a Hole
A deadbolt is only as strong as its installation. A bolt that extends into a shallow strike box, a door frame with rotted wood, or a lock body misaligned by even a few millimeters can all be defeated far too easily. When our technicians perform a deadbolt installation on your exterior door, they assess the door thickness, the frame condition, the existing bore diameter, and the surrounding wood integrity before recommending a lock grade. ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts — the residential and light-commercial standard — require precise installation to deliver the protection they promise on paper.
Richmond's older housing stock, particularly the Victorian-era builds throughout Oregon Hill and the Queen Anne homes in Ginter Park, often presents non-standard door thicknesses and aged frames that demand more care than a new-construction install. Our team carries the tooling and the experience to handle those scenarios without causing unnecessary damage to historic millwork or finished door surfaces. We work damage-free wherever the door and frame conditions allow, and we'll always tell you when a frame repair or reinforcement strike plate is needed before we begin.
